Local self-optimizing control with average loss minimization
A new criterion, average loss (instead of the traditional use of worst case loss) is proposed and solved for self-optimizing control, showing that design based on the new criterion is super-optimal. The theory and design approach led to a TSB research project (TP/5/OIL/6/I/H0366E) including Chevron (Joe.Shen@ com), E&H (wolfgang.drahm@flowtec.endress.com) and DeFlow (David.Whittingham@Neftemer.com). Outputs also include a patent on Inferential Slug Control (US8489244, granted). The method has been widely adopted by the process control community (e.g. Prof S Skogestad, skoge@ntnu.no, Dr ACB Araujo, antonio@dep.ufcg.edu.br, 6 papers in the session on Plantwide Control, UKACC Control Conference 2012).
