An experimental study of unsteady hydrodynamics of a single scull
In this paper the hydrodynamic performance of a single scull is investigated via field trials and novel tank tests in collaboration with researchers from the University of Southampton and UNSW Australia (l.doctors@unsw.edu.au) funded by EPSRC EP/F006284/1. As part of the study further developments on our unsteady towing capability allowed arbitrarily complex motion patterns to be realised. This unique hydrodynamic testing capability is now used in work investigating unsteady phenomenon effecting tidal turbines (EPSRC EP/F062036/1) and has led to a new research project (EPSRC EP/J500847/1 Industrial Doctoral Center for Offshore Renewable Energy) on tidal turbine blade turbulence control.
