The paper is the first publication resulting from an EPSRC-funded project, involving collaboration between the School of Materials and the School of Medicine at the University of Manchester. Halacheva is a corresponding author, carried out all experimental work and was responsible for the preparation, submission and revision of the article. The paper explores new types of high porosity, high elasticity, ductile and pH-responsive gels as a potential injectable treatment for osteoarthritis. The research is relevant to the urgent goals in nanomedicine for developing a minimally invasive alternative to the current invasive surgery-based approaches.
