Significance of output:

First demonstration of a low-speckle blue laser cavity design for use in cinema projectors. Red, Green and Blue lasers were assembled and combined into the UK’s first cinema-size laser projector demonstrator. This was developed as a TSB-funded initiative in Lighting and Displays under the £1.9M industrial collaboration #K2515A between Digital Projection, Gooch & Housego, Oclaro, and Covesion which is a spin-out from the ORC. Covesion have since improved this cavity design to achieve over 10W green for a confidential European cinema projector manufacturer scaling to 1000 laser cinema systems in 2014. This work was based on ORC patent PCT/GB2009/00358.
