University of Southampton
A microfiber cavity with minimal-volume confinement
Significance of output:
This publication demonstrated the possibility to confine light in 3D to volumes as small as the wavelength using nanostructured optical nanofibres. It led to the award of a project sponsored by the Royal Society (UF110123, Extreme light confinement in optical fibre nanowires, £380k, October 2012), to an invited talk (International Conference on Photonics, Malaysia, November 2012), to two seminars (University of Malaya and Malaysian Multimedia University, both in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia), to a collaboration with University of Malaya (prof. Harith Ahmad), and to a £100k industrial project sponsored by Beijing Aerospace (China)
