Significance of output:

The paper describes research conducted as part of a long-term collaboration with Sulzer Metco (US) Inc. (Mitch.Dorfman@sulzer.com), which contributed to improved understanding of the in-service behaviour of technologically important coating systems. This work underpinned the development of new coatings for gas turbines for energy generation and jet engine applications with significantly extended lifetimes, led to US Patent Applications US20100311562, US20110003119, US20120114929, resulted in a new international collaboration with Ricerca sul Sistema Energetico (federico.cernuschi@rse-web.it) and led to an invitation to submit an extended review to J. Thermal Spray Technology.
