Significance of output:

This paper reports an experimental demonstration of the highest line rate ever encoded so far (26.0 Tbit/s) over a single light source to answer the requirement of optical channel bandwidths for new services such as cloud computing, three dimensional high-definition television and virtual applications in a viable, energy-efficiently and effortlessly way. Following a very successful European-funded project (TRIUMPH, IST-027638STP, 03/2006-02/2009, €3.8m), this work combines the expertise of our group in Southampton in all-optical signal processing in nonlinear materials with other world-leading universities and companies including Finisar Corporation (Israel), Agilent Technologies (Germany), Time-Bandwidth Products AG (Switzerland), Micram Microelectronic GmbH (Germany).
