Additional information

Proposed for the first time to introduce nanoplasmonics for solar energy harvesting in Luminescent Solar Concentrators. Performance was improved by >30% compared with plain devices. Research formed the foundation for Marie-Curie grant Solar-PLUS (No.293567) with a value of €100k. Solar-PLUS was in the top 5% of over 400 applications in the same call (contact:Luis.GARCIA-DOMINGUEZ@ec.europa.eu). UCL contributed an additional £42k for a PhD studentship (contact:a.knowles@ucl.ac.uk). Papakonstantinou was invited in 2013 to join the committee of the Optical Society of America Renewable Energy and the Environment Congress, a major conference in nanotechnologies for renewable applications and to chair the Optics session.
