Additional information

This work in collaboration with Oclaro (Mike Wale) is the first demonstration of technique that can be used to characterize the frequency variation of low cost fast-tunable semiconductor lasers under wavelength switching to determine their suitability for use in next generation 100Gbit/s optically switched networks such as an upgraded Intune Networks (http://www.intunenetworks.com, John Dunne) Optically Switched Network and to allow for DSP based compensation of the frequency variation. This work is also been exploited in the 3M€ PIANO+ EU/TSB funded project CRITICAL (UCL £302k) to realize DSP based compensation for low-cost coherent receivers for access networks.
