Additional information

Experimentally demonstrated THz waveguides that exhibit record low transmission loss. Review of THz waveguides in Advances in Optics and Photonics (2013, doi:10.1364/AOP.5.000169) selects this as the waveguide with the lowest transmission loss among any THz waveguides. This work initiated new collaborations (U.of Cambridge, CNR/Scuola Normale Superiore (Italy), Imperial College) with subsequent publications in Optics Express, Applied Physics Letters, JOSA B. This waveguide technology was chosen as the most promising waveguide solution for THz signal transmission within THz systems in the EPSRC-funded programme grant (COTS, £6.5M) and for investigations in the EPSRC-funded grant on near-field THz microscopy (EP/G033870/1, £3305,141, PI: Mitrofanov).
