Jade Ladder: Contemporary Chinese Poetry
This is the first major English language survey of the last thirty years of Chinese poetry to be published in the UK, and it is more authoritative and less partisan in its range, scale and quality of translation than comparable US publications. This anthology was my conception from the outset, and I am the main editor, responsible for all matters of scholarly presentation, footnotes throughout, and contributing to indexing. In addition to co-translating a substantial portion of the work within (about half of the original translations), I contributed a 5000 word introductory essay. I also edited the eight accompanying essays by my Chinese co-editors, which involved me in substantially rewriting rough literals, and cutting and re-ordering around 30,000 words of material.
