Double-weighted statement

This book provides the first analysis of the evidence of the earliest inhabitants of Asia, spanning 2 Ma up to the appearance of modern humans 100,000 years ago. It is strongly interdisciplinary, examining the archaeological evidence, the fossil hominin record, and the environmental, faunal and climatic background. In area, Asia is equivalent to Africa and Europe combined, and research for this book encompassed enormous diversity in landscapes, climates and academic traditions (China, former Soviet Union, Indian subcontinent, Indonesia, Israel etc.). It required numerous inter-continental journeys to conferences and sites, and fills a large gap in global debates on human evolution.
