Report disseminated novel insights and predictions about synthetic biology derived from a systematic survey of universities, industry, etc. Set the UK agenda for this poorly-recognized discipline: major factor in BIS establishing Working Party for UK Roadmap in Synthetic Biology and Ministerial Leadership Council (Kitney on both), and in synthetic biology being one of Government’s “8 Great Technologies”. Resulting presentations: Governmental (EC, NRF-Singapore, French Ministerial, Home Office, CSIRO-Sydney), industrial (GenArt, TMwO, Bayer, GSK, Syngenta, Agilent-California), academic (MIT, 6-Academies, Karolinska, Shanghai). Grants to Kitney (PI): £5.9M EPSRC S&I Award (EP/G036004/1 2008); £10M+£14M EPSRC/BBSRC/TSB IKC Award (EP/L011573/1 2013); £6M Frontier Engineering (EP/K038648/1n 2013).
