Additional information

This paper proposed inter-node connections to electronic networks that calculate temporal derivatives. The resulting dynamics can approximate a type of space-time processing found in visual neurons of the brain. A prototype circuit was fabricated in the AMS 0.35µm CMOS technology, occupying only 12.6 sq mm and consuming only 1.2 µW per node. Device performance was tested and confirmed (Ip et al, Int. J. of Circuit Theory and Applications, 2011;39.6:665-678) and other labs are working to characterise these novel circuits (Polat et al, IEEE T-CAS 2012;59:2638-2645).
