The attachments of the anteromedial and posterolateral fibre bundles of the anterior cruciate ligament. Part 2: femoral attachment.
This functional anatomy study by a clinician under my supervision (Edwards) defined for the first time locations of the insertions of the two bundles of the most commonly-torn knee ligament and a method to surgically navigate to those locations. The work has been used in the design of multiple new surgical navigation devices (Smith and Nephew, Arthrex, dePuy), resulted in an international collaboration (Prof Aglietti, Bologna), has been cited by staff in many orthopaedics/surgery departments (e.g. Pittsburgh, Hokkaido, St Louis, Tokushima in 2013 alone), and resulted in invited keynote lectures at international conferences (e.g. ESSKA, Oslo 2010; EFORT, Vienna 2009).
