Additional information

Second of two-part series based on work of Sigal (my PhD student) in collaboration with Flanagan (clinician). Identified, through novel computational modeling of human eyes, the key factors influencing optic nerve head deformation. This has proved important in understanding the pathology of vision loss in glaucoma and allowed us in this article to propose a new concept for a biomechanically-based neuroprotective strategy in glaucoma. This concept is currently being tested in vivo by us and multiple other labs (e.g. Quigley at Hopkins; Gonzalez at Duke). Led to invited plenary, 6th World Congress of Biomechanics, Singapore 2010.
