Shadow removal and contrast enhancement in optical coherence tomography images of the human optic nerve head.
Together with Girard (postdoc), Strouthidis (clinician) and Mari (imaging scientist), developed a novel fast algorithm to improve the quality of optical coherence tomography (OCT) images, a widely-used clinical imaging modality. Algorithm allows reduction of “shadowing” due to overlying tissue structures and enhances contrast in deep tissues. Technology has been used for imaging the eye and coronary plaques. Featured in OCT News (http://www.octnews.org/articles/3979836/feature-of-the-week-9-9-12-imaging-of-coronary-art/). Algorithm led to creation of software now distributed through web site of Girard (http://www.bioeng.nus.edu.sg/ivb/reflectivity.html) and used by ~35 users worldwide, e.g. UCL, Moorfields, New York Eye and Ear, Seoul University, Shanghai Eye Hospital, Devers Eye Institute, Pittsburgh.
