Double-weighted statement

This monograph is the only book to examine the representation of tuberculosis in Victorian culture since Sontag’s classic Illness as Metaphor. Its interdisciplinary focus brings together a large body of medical writing on disease, alongside a wide range of literature from the period. It thus required three years of extensive archival research in the British and Wellcome Libraries. Its six chapters are each as long as a standard journal article and an earlier version of chapter two was previously published in Nineteenth-Century Contexts. Since publication it has received very good reviews, and it has recently been re-released in paperback.
