Additional information

The paper describes characterisation and verification of the critical front-end module for the Planck Satellite, an international telescope developed by the European Space Agency and NASA. Here the low noise amplifier at the heart of the radiometer plus switching components exhibit noise performance between 3 and 5 times the quantum limit in the frequency band between 30 and 44 GHz. This banded radiometer was subsequently adopted by the international system verification programme team.
