This investigation of rapidly sheared granular flow investigated for the first time the role of kinetic theory in describing a complex granular flow. A result of the work was an invitation to chair the Institute of Maths and its Applications conference on Dense Granular Flows, held at the Isaac Newton Institute, Cambridge (Lizzi.Lake@ima.org.uk)and an invitation to collaborate with and visit Prof. Vicente Garzo, Universidad de Extremadura (vicenteg@unex.es).
