This monograph was the product of seven years of ethnographic, archival, and policy work, funded by UC Berkeley and Mellon Foundation grants. I took sole responsibility for all aspects of the research, including interviews and ethnographic observation, participation in scientific and policy forums, teaching and training undergraduate and graduate students as part of the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine curriculum, public outreach, and serving on two Stem Cell Research Oversight Committees.
