Additional information

This North-West Development Agency funded research presents the results of computational modelling to determine the optimum amount of power available from tidal range generation on the Solway Firth. Novelty lies in the use, for the first time, of real turbine performance characteristics provided by collaborator Andritz Hydro (developer of the world’s largest tidal power station at Sihwa Lake, South Korea) as well as GIS mapping and bathymetric data. Cross comparison with alternative approaches indicates agreement to within 0.09 TWh, giving confidence in the approach utilised.
