Additional information

Paper develops novel normalization scheme which allows, for first time, restraining action of soil around pile to be expressed in terms of single master curve encompassing all pile lengths and pile-soil stiffness contrasts. Paper shows that traditional way of normalising frequency is inappropriate for three-dimensional problems sensitive to resonance effects. Rigorous mathematical treatment is used to obtain correct frequency-normalization schemes for frequencies below and above resonance. Paper shows that restraining action is best normalized to static limit below resonance and to shear modulus beyond resonance. Simple design-oriented formulas and charts are developed based on these results.
