Energy efficient radio resource management strategies for green radio
Paper proposes novel algorithm for determining how radio spectrum resource is allocated to users within network and shows how very high energy-savings (and consequent CO2 reductions) can be achieved. Work is key output from EPSRC Mobile Virtual Centre of Excellence’s [tinyurl.com/gen-eng-127] Green Radio project (EP/G06041X/1, £340k, 2009-12). This visionary project ultimately delivered methods which were capable of achieving reduction in energy consumption of over 90% for cellular access (mobile phone) networks; at least one multi-national company is known to have interest in deploying these techniques [contact: Senior Manager, NEC].
