Additional information

Composite aircraft wings are subject to many uncertainties including aerodynamic loads, material properties and manufacturing tolerances. Paper introduces novel probabilistic approach using polynomial chaos expansion to capture uncertainty and ensure robust aero-elastic design. Based on this work, Cooper is only UK member of NATO Aerospace Vehicle Technology uncertainty working group (RTO-AVT191). Approach employed in European "FFAST" project (No. 233665, €2.7M, 2010-2) on gust loads. Led to invited paper (Khodaparast et al., Mech. Sys. Sig. Proc., 32, 32-43, 2012), and keynotes at Airbus DiPart conference 2010 [contact: Conference Lead, Airbus] and international ERCOFTAC CFD-Optimisation conference (Antalya, Turkey, 2011).
