Additional information

Environmental-friendly building materials from renewable resources are of fundamental importance to society. Paper shows that corn's cob, an agricultural waste product, can be used as sustainable building material to provide thermal insulation. It possesses significant similarities (in terms of microstructure and chemical composition) to extruded polystyrene commonly used for thermal insulation. Work has had significant impact with research groups in Portugal [Profs. Pacheco-Torgal and Cunha, University of Minho; Prof. Soares, University of Aveiro].
