Paper presents holistic approach to planning and operation of mass gatherings. Co-authors are top figures in various fields, e.g. Marcozzi (previously President Obama’s Chief Advisor for Public Health), Memish (Deputy Minister of Health, Saudi Arabia). Paper is one of series in Lancet Infectious Diseases that captures main conclusions from large conference on mass gatherings attended by leading figures including Director-General of World Health Organisation (WHO). These led to new WHO-endorsed guidelines ("Jeddah Declaration on Mass Gatherings Health") and four WHO Collaborating Centres for Mass Gatherings Medicine [tinyurl.com/gen-eng-124].
