Speech signal enhancement based on MAP algorithm in the ICA space
This paper, in a premier signal processing journal, introduces a new approach to enhancement of speech signals corrupted by additive noise. State-of-the-art speech enhancement techniques perform the enhancement in a transform domain. Unlike conventional methods, which employ a single fixed transformation, the proposed method estimates separate transformations for signal and for noise and employs these during the enhancement process. This enables to better capture of the statistical properties of the signal and noise. This is the first reported use of such multiple transformations. This work was in collaboration with Shandong University (China) and led to £356k EPSRC responsive mode funding.
