The Primary Care Research Object Model (PCROM): A Computable Information Model for Practice-based Primary Care Research
The work presents the analysis of the requirements of clinical trials in primary care and for the first time the construction of an information model for systems supporting trial design, execution, and analysis. Validated by domain experts worldwide, the unique output information model represents an important link between existing research reference information models and the real-world implementation of systems for primary care trials, and is compatible with international standards. Originating from a US NIH funded roadmap grant (£300k, 2004-2008), the work is currently being adopted and further fully enhanced by an EU-based consortium (£600k, 2010-2016) for Primary Care Clinical Research.
