Additional information

Microwave filters which can tune their centre frequency are seen as essential for future systems. This paper presents an entirely new design of planar tuneable filter. The tuning is based on thin film Ba0.5Sr0.5TiO3 grown by the authors. Unusually the filter was fabricated with both superconductors and normal metal and the results compared, giving a unique insight into the performance trade off in this type of filter. The work was supported by a £6M EPSRC Portfolio award.
