A Lienard oscillator resonant tunnelling diode-laser iode hybrid integrated circuit: model and experiment
A hybrid optoelectronic integrated circuit based on a resonant tunnelling diode (RTD) driving an optical communications laser diode is reported. Insight into the potential of a monolithic version of the circuit for optical communication functions including clock recovery and chaotic source applications is provided. The work is expected to underpin next generation radio-over-fibre ultra-broadband and energy efficient wireless communications systems. A Glasgow-led multi-disciplinary consortium involving 5 universities and several companies is bidding for funding for such systems. It was also instrumental among other works to obtaining EPSRC funding on RTD-based terahertz sources for imaging applications (EP/J019747/1, £583k - PI Wasige).
