Additional information

This paper reports the pioneering application of Kent’s flame imaging technology to the quantification of biomass/coal co-firing flame characteristics and stability. It led to the in-depth understanding of co-firing flames and subsequent successful demonstration trials at Drax, the largest UK co-firing power plant (Principal Scientist, paul.straker@draxpower.com) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from power generation. As well as a follow-on EPSRC grant (EP/G063214/1), the paper led to Yan being awarded the Alec Hough-Grassby Award by the Institute of Measurement and Control and being invited to give a keynote lecture at the 9th European Conference on Industrial Furnaces and Boilers (http://www.cenertec.pt/infub/).
