Additional information

<20>This paper is the first to show how Bayesian probabilistic filters can be applied to capacitive touch input to dramatically improve mobile touchscreen performance. It is innovative in its rigorous mathematical approach to modelling touch. The work combined custom electronics design with working implementations of sophisticated real-time probabilistic models, and was tested in a comprehensive usability study. Touch precision 3 times better than the iPhone was achieved with much simpler hardware. This paper was published at SIGCHI (the top venue in HCI), and directly led to a funded project with Nokia (contact: Seppo Turunen) on designing next-generation touch interaction.
