English abstract
The article addresses the political dimension of Western medieval maps of Jerusalem from the conquest in 1099 to the loss of the city in 1187. After giving a survey of the known maps from this period, the article newly identifies in one of them a rare depiction of the palace of the Crusader kings, which was built in the 1160s near the Tower of David. It discusses the evidence in relation to the broader endeavour by the crusader kings to position themselves in the symbolic succession of the kings of Israel.
