The book emerges from interdisciplinary practice-based research taking five years to complete. The stages of data production were multi layered:
(i) A two-year quarterly studio lab integrating movement improvisation and psychotherapy with nine international participants.
(ii) Forty hours of group audio-recorded and transcribed semi-structured interviews and discussions.
(iii) Selecting 111 narrative extracts for analysis and interweaving into the film.
(iv) Choreographic development from the labs in preparation for filming.
(v) Sixty hours of film production and editing in the studio (labs) and in three site-specific locations.
(vi) Data analysis integrating the disciplines of feminism, dance movement psychotherapy, performance and filmmaking.
