Craft in Dialogue

This exhibition, curated by the writer and curator Amanda Game, was a retrospective celebration of all the recipients of an Inches Carr Trust Bursary Award, since its inception in 1996. The exhibition covered all areas within the craft arena and those participating represented a ‘who’s who’ of contemporary Scottish craft from 1996 to the present day (Professor Jack Cunningham received the award in 1997). The Inches Carr Trust Bursary Award is a prestigious accolade so bringing together all the recipients, with original works and contemporary pieces, added a dimension unique to the Scottish craft movement.

The Dovecot Studio is a highly regarded institution as an exhibition venue playing a pivotal role within the Scottish Gallery circuit. Centering on ‘Scottishness’ the exhibition provided unique ethnographic material for craft researchers.

Cunningham’s contribution was from his ‘Cabinet of Curiosities’ range containing anatomical references. Bringing together disparate fragments, including found objects, to create new narratives these pieces included the innovative use of laser engraving on the mini plaques that comprised a key component of each piece.
