Three-dimensional motion analysis of postural adjustments during over-ground locomotion in a rat model of Parkinson's disease
This paper, based on collaboration between biological scientists (within Cardiff’s highly-regarded Brain Repair Group) and engineers, describes a novel approach to generating biomechanical data from animal models of disease. It has been presented at a number of international conferences, including the European Society of Biomechanics 2010 (Edinburgh) and the 10th International Conference on Computer Methods in Biomechanics and Biomechanical Engineering 2012 (Berlin). This study originates from a Royal Academy of Engineering-Leverhulme Trust Senior Research Fellowship to apply new and existing human biomechanics techniques to animal models to test their efficacy and generate objective rather than subjective data.
