Additional information

The technique developed provides enlightening 3-dimensional, transient tomography for a complex vortical structure known as the Precessing Vortex Core. This enables original design and development of industrial devices such as burners for the power industry, enabling improved efficiency, operability and reduced emissions. This paper has contributed to several multi-million pound projects subsequently including EU-FP7 (‘H2-IGCC’) and EPSRC (‘FLEXEPLANT’). Preliminary results were awarded ‘Best Poster Prize’ at a major Moscow conference (2008); further applications of the technique introduced were presented and awarded ‘The Best Terrestrial Energy Paper’ at the 2010 AIAA conference in Orlando. The paper has been widely cited.
