Sub-cooled and flashing liquid jets and droplet dispersion, II. Scaled Experiments and derivation of droplet atomisation correlations
This paper proposes a new Cardiff model for quantifying 2-phase characteristics of ‘flashing’ releases of hazardous material such as chlorine, butane and LNG, suitable for integration within international-standard dispersion software ‘DNV-PHAST’ ( 500+ licences sold worldwide). It emanates from a 12-year collaboration between Cardiff and risk management multi-national, DNV (Modelling Manager : Henk.Witlox@dnv.com). Sponsors included Dutch Government, TOTAL, Gaz-de-France and STATOIL. DNV disseminated it worldwide through USA and Middle-East conferences. Large-scale model validation was subsequently funded at INERIS (France) and HSL (UK). Elsevier announced the companion paper (Part I) as one of the top-cited papers in this journal in 2011-2012.
