Additional information

EPSRC supported this work in part (Grant GR/T05059) together with industrial support from Shell Global Solutions. The work involves a fundamental investigation into the rheology and thermal behaviour of lubricant films under high load. A follow-on study which builds on the work reported in this paper is being funded via an Iraqi Government studentship. Aspects of the work in this paper have been presented at a number of conferences, including the European Rheology Conference (2009) and the 5th Chinese International Symposium on Tribology (2008) (invited presentation delivered by Evans HP).
