Voltage-current characteristics of multiterminal HVDC-VSC for offshore wind farms
Voltage-current characteristics of voltage source converters used in a HVDC grid such as the future European SuperGrid are designed and analysed. The determination of the converter characteristics is crucial for the safety and efficient operation of HVDC grids. This work has led to a major EU_FP7_Marie_Curie_ITN funding of €3.9M (PITN-GA-2012-317221, led by and €1.5M to Cardiff University), which involves 11 organisations across 6 countries to support 12 PhD students and 5 Research Associates. This work has also attracted industrial funding of £292k in two projects on HVDC-VSC from Alstom Grid UK ( Carl Barker, carl.barker@alstom.com, Chief Engineer HVDC Grids).
