Additional information

The significant result for this work lies in the comparison of two Finite Element Analysis approaches for simulating polymer flow during micro injection moulding. Thus, the identification of the most effective method to accurately predict the successful filling or otherwise of micro cavities could be achieved for a range of different experimental conditions. The reported increased accuracy achieved with the 3D simulation approach in comparison with 2D modelling was subsequently highlighted in a review paper from an international leading expert in micro and nano replication, Prof Hans Hansen (DTU, Denmark), (DOI: 10.1016/j.cirp.2011.05.008).
