Additional information

<04> • Novel dynamic bandwidth assignment (DBA) protocol incorporating GPON encapsulation method (GEM) to support multiple services through upstream resource sharing.

• Protocol incorporates new dynamic optical network unit (ONU) reporting process which replicates real-time changes in ONU queues and therefore captures traffic characteristics at customer premises.

• Efficient bandwidth assignment facilitated through novel balance transferring mechanism within the protocol which establishes dynamic bandwidth compensation among multiple GTC frames and contributes to an average 22% increase in GPON upstream throughput compared with a conventional DBA protocol.

• New protocol also alleviates the impact of self-similar traffic on the GPON performance.
