Additional information

This article expands and amends significantly earlier interpretations of the fort at Dichin and its context. For example, new content comprises detailed presentation of the aims of the Dichin excavations and their military implications (p.224); new interpretation of the interior of the fort and its buildings (p. 228-29); new explanation for a decline in military building practices after 400 (p.228); reinterpretation of supply mechanisms based on analysis of military diet (p. 230); and amended interpretations of radical change in the 5th century, the long term repercussions for Constantinople and the nature of 'Gothic' identity (p. 231-34).
