This paper formulated a versatile and unified framework for the sum rate of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems using zero-forcing (ZF) receivers. Contrary to all previous studies this paper used finite-dimensional matrix theory. The results of this work are of high importance for massive MIMO systems, which are currently in the forefront of wireless communications research. The paper was nominated for the 2013 IEEE SPS Young Author Best Paper Award and the techniques presented in several invited talks.
