Measurement-based Method for Wind Farm Power System Oscillations Monitoring
The paper describes a novel oscillation monitoring approach resulting from the EPSRC grants (GR/S84354/01, DT/E005411/1). Traditional oscillation monitoring methods use a fast Fourier transform thus losing information in the time-domain. This paper employs a wavelet-based technique with a kernel method, and thereby keeps the information in the time-domain, as well as the frequency domain. It is the first to apply kernel based statistical techniques to identify high-magnitude power oscillations which exceed grid code limits. Results enable real time power oscillation monitoring using multi-site PMU data and subsequently improved control of renewable energy in power systems.
