Additional information
In a classical Class-E power amplifier, maximum output power is limited by the shunt capacitance. In order to obtain higher output power, a new power-combining technique is proposed. This technique allows for the first time the use of finite DC feed inductance and increases the maximum operating frequency by 67%. The power amplifier exhibits a 350-MHz bandwidth within which a drain efficiency >60% and an output power >22 dBm are measured. Hence performance figures were substantially better than previous art. This work was conducted in collaboration with the University of Birmingham.
