Additional information
Provides an evaluation of both a modern control technique, and also the use of supplementary inputs for the improvement of the transient responds of a diesel generator when subjected to load. The algorithms developed have been fully tested on a unique gen-set test facility at QUB before being handed over to industry. This research led directly to the filing of US patent application, PCT/US2007/012804. The work continues with funding (£318k) from Caterpillar’s Electric Power Division who have invested £3.4M in worldwide field trials and new class defining product will be introduced by Caterpillar in 2013, see Gen-set impact case study.
