<24> The paper is original in providing a theoretical exposition of an algorithm introduced in 2002 that has frequently been applied empirically but never analysed from a machine-learning perspective. It contributed to a new body of theoretical work following a seminal paper that claimed the development of the AIS field was being hindered through lacking a theoretical foundation. The paper develops Hart’s well-cited conference paper (10.1007/978-3-642-03246-2_11).
