Demain la sécularisation? Les musulmans et le pouvoir au Mozambique aujourd’hui
This article investigates the turnabout in the place of Islam in Mozambique during the past twenty years. An oppressed religion since the beginning of the century, Islam has become socially and politically important, although it remains a minority religion. This article looks at the causes, chronology and effects of this transformation. The first section reviews the rising power of Islam after independence; the second the integration of Muslims into the national hegemonic bloc; the third the policies the governing party has developed toward Muslims since the 1980s; and the last looks at the latest developments within the Muslim community.
